ANCORA UN PO’ DI CINA – A LITTLE MORE OF CHINA

Questa mattina, di fianco al giardino cinese di Fukushuen, nel quartiere di Matsuyama, a Naha, si è tenuta l’inaugurazione di un nuovo piccolo tempio confuciano. Un nuovo anello a unire Okinawa alla Cina, nonostante i molti attriti fra Giappone e Cina di questo periodo, ad aggiungersi alle mille altre influenze del grande Paese asiatico sull’arcipelago.

This morning, on a side of Fukushuen Chinese garden, in Matsuyama neighborhood, Naha, has been held the inauguration of  a new small Confucian temple. A new tie to link Okinawa to China, despite the many disagreements between Japan and China of this period, to be added to the thousands of other influences of the big Asian country on the archipelago.

  

La commemorazione ha avuto inizio nel tempio ‘gemello’ di Shiseibyo, di fianco a quello di Naminoue. Da qui è partita una processione attraverso la zona di Wakasa per portare le ‘tavole degli spiriti’, con iscrizioni cinesi, al nuovo tempio. I religiosi sono stati accompagnati da due gruppi di associazioni folcloristiche rionali di Naha, famose per tenere in equilibrio lunghi e pesanti pali di legno, che vivono il loro momento di gloria tra settembre (http://unitalianoaokinawa.blogspot.jp/2013/02/eisa-matsuri.html) e ottobre (durante la festa del Tug of War).

The commemoration started at the ‘twin’ temple of Shiseibyo, by the Naminoue’s one. From there started a procession through Wakasa’s area to bring the ‘spirits tables’, with Chinese inscriptions, to the new temple. The monks have been accompanied by two groups of Naha’s neighborhood folkloric associations, famous to keep in balance long and heavy wood poles, that have their moments of glory between September (http://unitalianoaokinawa.blogspot.jp/2013/02/eisa-matsuri.html) and October (during the Tug of War Festival).

Giunto all’ingresso del nuovo tempio, l’intero gruppo, scortato da bambini che hanno suonato tamburelli e conchiglie, è entrato nel cortile interno. I religiosi hanno depositato le tavolette all’interno del tempio, consacrandolo. Poi, all’esterno, si è tenuta un’esibizione di karate, seguita da una dei due gruppi folcloristici. Il caldo era terribile, ma siamo tutti sopravvissuti.

Arrived at the entrance of the new temple, the whole group, escorted by children singing little drums and shells, entered the inner courtyard. The monks have placed the tables inside the temple, consecrating it. Then, outside, there has been a karate performance, followed by one of the two folkloristic groups. The heat was terrible, but we all survived.

Il nuovo tempio, fiammante, consolida i legami con la Cina. I piloni portanti e le tavole nella zona centrale della nuova struttura provengono da Qufu, in Cina, il luogo natio del filosofo Confucio. Tra le offerte sull’altare, oltre alla classica pelle della faccia di un maiale Agu (una delle prelibatezze di Okinawa), uno scatolone di birra Orion, la seconda bandiera di Okinawa, dopo quella ufficiale.

  

The brand new temple consolidates the ties to China. The main pillars and the central tables of the new building come from Qufu, China, the birthplace of philosopher Confucius. Between the offerings on the altar, besides the usual face skin of Agu pork (an Okinawa delicacy), a box of Orion beer, Okinawa’s second flag, after the official one.
